Anchorage
Policy Project

About the Project

We hear over and over that Anchorage has unmet potential. So why aren’t we reaching it? The short answer is we are stuck in a reactive cycle, with no comprehensive vision or plan for our city. We keep meeting big challenges with short-term bandaids. Government is eroding people’s confidence that it can solve our small problems, let alone our big ones. And on top of all that, we end up paying more for reactive non-solutions that try to treat symptoms rather than addressing causes.

This project sets out to bridge the gap between public opinion and sound policy. In other words, it is informed by what we know people care about (through polling, focus groups, and community surveys) and what we know works on the policy side, based in local expertise, case studies, and data.

The Anchorage Policy Project sets out to establish a broadly supported set of policies to move Anchorage forward.

Project Status

This project is a work-in-progress.

The first phase has resulted in a draft list of policies to move Anchorage forward. The next phase, if funded, will incorporate wider feedback on the information shared here and start to prioritize what Anchorage needs to do first to turn policy ideas into reality.
