Draft Policy Agenda

A policy agenda is made up of the important issues that elected officials agree to consider and work on. 

The goal of this project is to inform the local policy agenda in Anchorage by:

  • identifying issue areas people care about and that make for a more livable community

  • developing specific policy recommendations that have been proven to work in priority areas

  • communicating with policymakers and the public to build momentum around the vision and policies

The short-term goal is to inform policymaking in Anchorage over the next few years, including informing the policy agenda that the Assembly and Mayor put forward.

Policy Areas & Goals

  • The Municipality of Anchorage is a well-run, effective local government.

  • Everyone in Anchorage has access to housing or shelter . No one has to sleep outside.

    Anchorage is a safe community where public safety resources are deployed effectively.

  • Anchorage residents have a foundation for healthy, thriving lives, from good schools to affordable housing to culture and connection.

  • Anchorage has a thriving economy based in quality postsecondary education, strong local businesses, and good jobs.

  • Anchorage is a connected, sustainable, world-class city for residents and visitors alike, building on a foundation of indigenous culture, Arctic location, and outdoor amenities.
